Happy Valley Women's Cycling

This race series was originally built and supported by the riders of Happy Valley Women’s Cycling. As racers themselves, they knew firsthand what was missing from other events, and set out to create a series that got it right: well-marked courses, fully stocked aid stations, mechanics on course, and podium parties that wait for awarded finishers and celebrate every achievement. Just as importantly, they wanted to build an environment where women and men of all skill levels feel welcomed and championed for simply conquering their own goals in the sport of cycling. That spirit continues today — the race is still run mainly by women, and half of the GRIT spots are reserved for women riders.

Choose a race

The Seasons of Rothrock is a series of races in the Rothrock State Forest, showcasing the beauty of our backyard MTB trails and gravel roads through racing. We’re making some changes for the 2027 season, but here’s how our events looked in the past. Expect even better next year!

Whipple Dam Racers on Rothrock State Forest Gravel

Whipple Dam Gravel

The first race, Whipple Dam Gravel Race, is held in early Spring taking riders through Alan Seeger and Bear Meadows Natural Areas, and Whipple Dam via challenging gravel roads and double-track trails.

GRIT Gravel Grinder riders with Grit logo and USA Cycling Junior Gravel National Series logo

Rothrock GRIT Gravel Grinder

The Rothrock GRIT Gravel Grinder is an epic journey through all of Rothrock State Forest, with the 100-miler reaching the furthest corners. This race is also home to a stop on the USA Cycling Junior Gravel Nationals Series circuit.

Greenwood Furnace MTB

The Seasons of Rothrock Adventures  Greenwood Furnace MTB Race in Greenwood Furnace State Park awards points for the Mid-Atlantic Super Series.  Held in mid-June, this mountain bike race traverses rooty, rocky, and demanding single-track, including IMBA Epic Coopers Gap trails.
